The District Court sentenced 63-year-old Dipak Giri of Letang Municipality-8 to life imprisonment for the crime of killing a 12-year-old girl of Letang Municipality-8 after raping her. Om Subedi, Information officer reported that the bench of honorable Judge Reshraj Sharma, the District Court Morang on January 1 found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a compensation of Rs 700000 to the victim.
The victim studying in class 6 at Jante Secondary School, Letang Municipality-8 went missing on her way home after school on February 13, 2022. Her dead body was found in a ditch of Lalhira Community Forest of Letang Municipality 8. The police arrested the accused on February 25 after finding out that he burned the victim’s clothes near his house in Letang Municipality-8 on the same day. A part of the victim’s school belt and shoelace were found at the place where the clothes were burned.
The victim’s father filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Letang on February 23 regarding the disappearance of his daughter. Following the complaint, police registered a case against the accused in the District Court on March 20 under the title of rape and killing. The District Court Judge Jetbahadur Khadka ordered the accused to be remanded in custody on March 21.
The postmortem of the body was done at BP Koirala Health and Science Institute, Dharan on February 25. The aggrieved party took the body on the same day to Letang-8 for the last ritual.
