Initiation Of INSEC in Rescuing and Remunerating Girls Kept As Child Laborers

The aggrieved party filed a application that two teenage girls, 15 and 16-year-old were made to work in the BG Canteen of the BG Hospital,Pokhara Metropolitan City-12 from April 17th to September 15th, 2022 without the consent of their parents and were not paid any wages.

Shiva Khakurel, Coordinator,INSEC Gandaki Provincial Office submitted a request to Labor and Employment Office to take initiative for the justice of girls on the basis of the application. The Labor Office contacted the canteen owner, Sita Subedi, and asked her canteen’s registration certificate and citizenship. After the discussion with both parties, she acknowledged and agreed to address the issue.

Jyoti Darjee, the sister of the victim  said that the canteen owner, Sita Subedi, admitted that she had made the girls work. The remuneration of the work done by the girls up to that time was Rs. 120,000 per girl. It was deposited into the victims account  on October 3.The victims are currently residing under the care and protection of their own sisters.

Suresh Dhakal, Senior Labor Officer announced that it was decided the canteen must pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 per girl, totaling Rs. 10,000, for employing child labor without obtaining approval under Section 6 of the Child Labor Act 1999.
