A Woman Sent To Kuwait For Foreign Employment Is Stranded: A Plea For Rescue

35-year-old Dhankauri Rawal (Darshana),Barigaon, Adanchuli Rural Municipality-5, is now stranded in Kuwait.

Rawal, who was sent to Kuwait on August 28, 2023 by the Integrated Foreign Employment Professionals Organization Nepal, Kathmandu, to work as a domestic worker, has been compelled to seek help from the government of Nepal expressing distress through social media since September 8.

The victim claims that a foreign employment company sent her to Kuwait with the promise of a good job. However, she was forced into working as a domestic servant, which compelled her to seek assistance through the social networking site, Facebook.

Mangale Rawal, victim’s husband said that his severe head injury during his youth, left him unable to work for a long period. He complained that despite the company’s initial assurance of an eight-hour working shift during the recruitment process, they later extended it to fourteen hours, without breaks, and without access to food and shelter unless it was provided by the house owner.

The victim complained that they have been causing pain under various pretexts by increasing her working hours day by day and appealed to everyone for help and rescue.

ANFSU has submitted an attention letter to the District Administration Office, Humla demanding the rescue of the victim on September 10. Chhaka Lama, the Vice Chairperson of ANFSU Humla, informed that the letter was submited to the District Administration Office after the victim plead for rescue and stated that the victim had begun experiencing mental and social torture through social media.

Lama stated that the attention letter has been forwarded to the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, by Srinath Paudal, Chief District Officer.

An appeal to the Nepal government, facilitated by the district administration has been made  to launch a rescue operation as soon as possible.

Shrinath Paudel, the Chief District Officer, informed that he sent a request to the authorities on the same day to speed up the rescue of the stranded woman.
