The residents of Namkha Rural Municipality-6 are facing a severe food shortage as they have not received any food supplies for the past 10 months. Nimarinjin Tamang, a local resident, expressed concern over the situation and explained that due to issues with the Food Management and Trade Company Limited branch in Humla, the allocated food grains were not transported, resulting in the local residents of Limika being without food for an extended period.
According to Tamang, although the branch had dispatched 200 quintals of food grains to Limi in September 2022, no further supplies have been delivered since then. He revealed that out of the total quota set for the limited sales centers, only 200 quintals of food grains have reached the area, while the remaining 300 quintals have not been delivered.
Despite repeated requests to the district administration office for assistance, the local residents have not seen any action taken to address the food shortage.
Paljor Tamang, the Ward Chairperson of Limi, confirmed that there is indeed a food crisis in Limi due to the failure of food supplies from the sales center to reach the region. This crisis has impacted around 1,200 residents living in 213 households across the villages of Limy, Thiel, Halji, and Jang.
Krishna Prasad Acharya, the head of the Nepal Food System and Trade Company Limited branch, acknowledged the failure to deliver the entire allocated food quota. He mentioned that they are now planning to transport food supplies from Kathmandu through the Kerung pass in Tibet and distribute the remaining food quota through Hilsa.
