Police registered a complaint at the district police office on June 8, 2023, alleging Mithlesh Raya,25, Siraha Bariyarpatti Rural municipality-2, Jankinagar, of child marriage with a 13-year-old girl.
Naresh Kumar Singh, DSP of the District Police Office, said that the case was registered based on the complaint filed by Radheshyam Raya,42, Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-1 Barahi against Mithlesh, his father Jileshwar Rai, 55, the girl’s mother Rekhadevi Raya, 45, Ravi Shankar Raya, 55, and Minadevi Raya, 43.
The petitioner submitted the girl’s birth certificate, marriage certificate, wedding photo, and video as proof along with the complaint.
The mentioned birthdate of the girl in the birth registration book of the local registry office is on September 10, 2010. The child marriage took place on May 11, 2023, in Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-1 Barahi.
Raju Rai, a resident, informed that the police reached the marriage venue after the INSEC representative informed Narendra Kumar Karki, SP about the child marriage. However, the child marriage was not stopped.
The representative of INSEC Saptari requested SP Karki and Bhupendra Thapa, CDO to take action against the incident on May 12, 2023.
Although a complaint has been registered, the accused have not been arrested.
