Three Years Imprisonment for Child Marriage

Dhirendra Kumar Sah, 21, of Khadak Municipality-9, Lalpatti, was sentenced to three years imprisonment, on June 7, 2023, for the crime of child marriage with a 14-year-old girl.

According to the court, District Judge Dr. Rajendra Prasad Acharya’s bench found the accused guilty of child marriage, sentenced him to 3 years imprisonment, and imposed a fine of 30,000 rupees.

The victim’s father filed a complaint at the Kalyanpur Area Police Office on February 4, 2023, saying that the accused had married a child in marriage, Shambhunath Temple located in Shambhunathan Garpalika-3 on January 25, 2023. He further accused him of rape of the victim.

The police found both the accused and the victim on the same day. The court found the man guilty of child marriage and acquitted him of rape.

The health examination of the girl was done on February 4, at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital Rajviraj. The girl was handed over to her parents.

District Judge Naveen Kumar Joshi’s bench filed a charge sheet in the district court on February 28. The accused was remanded to judicial custody in Rajviraj Jail on February 29.
