Development should be environment-friendly – President Paudel

President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized the need for development to be environment-friendly. On World Environment Day, June 5, he issued a message expressing his best wishes.

The message says – “On this day, we all have to take a pledge to keep the environment around our homes clean and ensure the ecological relationship between us and the forests, water, plants, agriculture, and animals, and realize the right to live in a clean environment provided by the Constitution of Nepal. It is necessary  to make development environmentally friendly.”

This year, World Environment Day is being celebrated with the slogan ‘Eliminate plastic pollution, use environment-friendly alternatives’.

It is mentioned in the President’s message that the ruthless exploitation of nature, due to the growing ambitions of the human race, has caused global climate change, and the loss of biological diversity.

President Paudel has expressed his belief that today will provide more enthusiasm to implement the issues and commitments made by Nepal in various international forums to reduce the impact of air, water, and land pollution.

“Climate change has adverse effects on our Himalayan ranges, high mountains, Chure and Terai plains. It hurts the environment. Another challenge is the plastic waste created by the unorganized and unscientific use of plastic polymers produced as an example of the latest development of science. It has become a major environmental challenge,” the message states.

President Paudel has emphasized the need to make development environmentally friendly. According to the concept of sustainable development, the potential impact on the environment from any development and construction work conducted by the Nepal government must be addressed.
