The High Court Surkhet ordered the respondents of a writ petition regarding the availability of safe drinking water in Choukune Municipality-5, on May 10, 2023, to submit a written response within 15 days.
The Chief Minister, the Office of the Council Ministry, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Urban Development Karnali Province, and the Chokune Rural Municipality Office are respondents to a writ petition filed on May 10, demanding immediate access to drinking water to the citizens.
A team from INSEC reached out to Rekcha on March 16, 2023, to investigate the issues faced by locals regarding drinking water. It was a report that confirmed the residents are not getting adequate drinking water. Advocate Prakash Babu Aidi and Program Officer Pariskrit Paudel of INSEC Karnali Province Office filed a writ in the High Court, based on the same report. The writ claimed that the locals did not have access to safe drinking water. Based on the same writ petition, a single bench of Judge Madhav Prasad Pokhrel, High Court of Surkhet issued a show cause order on May 28.
The court has ordered to arrange to meet the requirements of access to safe drinking water with the help of experts and to report a written response within 15 days.
