Emphasis on need for Speedy Justice for Families of Enforced disappeared Persons

INSEC Chairperson Dr. Kundan Aryal emphasized the need for prompt justice to the families of enforced disappeared persons.

Dr. Aryal, addressing the orientation workshop of the fair and speedy justice project for the families of forcibly disappeared persons organized by INSEC on 27 and 28 April 2023,  Dhulikhel, emphasized the need to access justice for the families of enforced disappeared individuals.

He expressed his concern regarding the whereabouts and the condition of the disappeared during the conflict that the state and the then insurgent party, Maoist have not made public or taken accountability for.

According to the documentation of INSEC, 931 people have been forcefully disappeared by the state and the armed rebel during the armed conflict.

The Comprehensive Peace Accord signed on November 21, 2006, mentioned that the condition of the missing persons would be made public within 60 days, but the initiative was not followed.

Bijayraj Gautam, Executive Director of INSEC, said that this project will play an important role in studying the situation of the families of the missing persons and providing them with the necessary support.

In the program, Aarzo Karki introduced the project, while the coordinators of all seven provinces informed about the current situation of the families of the missing persons on a provincial basis.

Madan Poudel, the Head of the Human Rights Documenting and Dissemination Department, presented plans regarding the Human Rights Resource Center and Nepal Human Rights Year Book. He further presented a review and action plan on the Human Rights Education Program.
