The family of the deceased protested on April 26, 2023, saying that their loved ones died due to the negligence of Khwap Hospital, run by Bhaktapur municipality.
Jujuprasad Prajapati, the son of the deceased, said Asha Kumar Prajapati, 88, of Bhaktapur Municipality-10, Chaimasingh, was admitted to Khwap Hospital for treatment on April 16, due to health problems and died due to extreme carelessness of the hospital.
He said, ‘When my father fell ill, we brought him for treatment on April 16. The doctor gave him laxatives because he had not eaten and emptied his bowls for 6 days, but it did not work. They suggested taking him to another hospital for treatment. Suddenly, this afternoon, the situation worsened. Just this evening, the doctor told us they did not have an ICU, and to take the patient to a hospital with an ICU. However, my father died before the hospital could make a referral document.’
Jujuprasad, the son of the deceased, said that the hospital admitted the patient promising that he would be fine, even after the diagnosis they said that he would be fine. They did not even disclose the fact that the hospital did not have an ICU. They did not refer us to another hospital in time.
He demands action against the negligence of the hospital.
Acting Medical Director at the hospital. Majesh Pratap Malla said that although the patient’s condition was improving during the treatment, the condition suddenly worsened on the afternoon of April 26.
He said, ‘There is no ICU in our Khwap hospital, it is being built. The problem arose due to the sudden deterioration of the patient’s condition, even though all the doctors tried, we could not save him, and the patient’s family may not have been informed about the lack of ICU.’
Dr. Malla informed that the family agreed to receive the body of the deceased after the hospital proposed to have a discussion meeting with involved doctors, nurses, and family.
