The silent period has started from Thursday night for the members of the House of Representatives by-election to be held on 23 April. By-elections are being held in Bara Constituency No. 2, Tanahun Constituency No. 1 and Chitwan Constituency No. 2.
There is a law that prohibits political parties from campaigning during the by-election silent period.
According to the election code of conduct, the silent period is applicable from 48 hours before the election.
The Election Commission has stated that the partied shall not be allowed to conduct any activities including discussions, interactions, meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars during the silent period.
