More Than 5,700 Victims in the cases of Women and Child (girls) Rights Violations

INSEC documented total of 5,743 victims including 4,339 women and 1,404 children (girls) in the year 2022.

INSEC released this statistics in a report issues in an occasion of 113th International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023.

In the year 2022, 24 were the victims of trafficking and transportation, 24 of attempted trafficking, 3,031 of domestic violence, 23 of ‘witch’craft allegation, 605 of rape, 145 of attempted rape and 42 were the victims of sexual abuse, states the report.

Report notes, right to life is the supreme human rights. However, women are killed every now and then. In the year 2022, 111 women were killed by the family members. The same number was 112 in 2021.

As per INSEC, one woman was killed for not bringing demanded dowry and 25 were victimized for the same reason. Fifteen women was victimized in the incidents of marital rape.

Likewise, INSEC documented 1,009 girls victim of rape, 326 victims of sexual abuse, 39 of trafficking and transportation and 30 of child marriage. 113th International women’s day is being celebrated under the slogan ’A strong foundation for gender equality: expansion of women’s access to creative technologies.’

Even though the laws and political participation of women is improving, women in Nepal are still suffering from the structural and gender based violence.

Report states, ‘Although the violence against women has been accepted as a serious offence, the same will not decline unless the power dynamic between men and women, economic dependence of women and implementation status of the laws are changes.
