Soniya Reshmi, 22, of Saniamaina-10 has been arrested by the police in the charge of beating a 14-year-old child to death in the name of healing her traditionally (jharfuk).
Accused was arrested after the dissemination of a video in the social media. Reshmi was found pushing the child on the floor, slapping her brutally, sitting in her body and ringing the bell claiming herself to be a mata.
The disseminated video has shown the accused chanting ‘did you see my power?’, beating the child with rudraksha, splashing water and spitting on her face, dragging her on the floor ruthlessly. Police started the investigation of the incident following the release of that video.
Team deputed under the command of inspector Jagannath Marasini has arrested the accused involved in the incident and taken the equipment including mug, rudraksha, trishul and others which was used to beat the child.
Family of the victim informed the girl was taken to Soniya Reshmi for the treatment of her ear. She has been experiencing pain in the ear for last four/five days. Her disease wasn’t cured by the hospital despite multiple visits. She was eventually taken to the Reshmi, who claimed herself to be a ‘mata’ and assured to treat the child.
DSP of the District Police Office, Syamu Aryal informed that Sita (victim) lost her life in the incident spot. She was then taken to the last riet site in Lasmanghar, Kapilvistu for funeral.
As per the police, a case of homicide has been initiated against the accused. She is currently under police custody and the investigation is underway.
A CCTV footage has revealed that victim Sita Gyawali was taken to Medical in Saljhandi and was brought back home after the treatment.
