Two Thousand and Eighty Four Victims of Human Rights Abuses and Violations Documented in Lumbini Province in 2022

Total of 2,084 victims of human rights violations and abuses are documented in Lumbini Province in the year 2022.

INSEC Lumbini Province Coordinator Bhola Mahat revealed the said statistic in a press meet organized by INSEC Lumbini Province office, Nepalgunj to discuss on the situation of Human Rights in the Province.

INSEC documented 2,084 victim, including 15 victims of abductions, six of arrests, 32 of beatings, 242 of child rights violations, two of death in detentions, five of inhumane behaviours, 59 of injuries, 40 of killings, seven of caste based discrimination, 47 of deprivation of freedom of expression, association and assembly, three of threatening, 1,623 of women rights violations, one of death in prison and one of disappearance.

Coordinator Mahat stated that the incidents of human rights abuses and violations were highest in Lumbini Province this year. Further, Women and Children were mostly affected in the documented incidents.

Similarly, as per him, people from Dalit community, Students, House wives and Journalists were found to be vulnerable amongst others.

Nepalgunj Chief of National Human Rights Commission Dwarika Adhikari expressed his concerns on inability of prioritizing women participation in elections and the accelerating rate of violence against women and children.

As per Journalist Kamal Dangi, Journalists are unable to work independently owing to the political intervention every now and then.

Likewise, Rima BC, from INSEC Rupandehi was declared as the Best District Representative in the program.
