Parbat Jail Inmates Complain of Lack of Voter Education

Prisoners in the Parbat District Jail have complained that they are yet to receive voter education for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections in Gairah.

Naike Gyan Prasad Paija, an inmate of Parbat Prison, has not received voter education despite the provision for inmates to vote for proportional candidates in the House of Representatives.

There are 140 inmates in prison, and 35 people are eligible to vote in the election November 20.

Jailer Sheila Shrestha informed that other prisoners could not vote because their names were not on the final voter list.

District Election Officer of District Election Office Parbat, Lakshu Sharma, admitted that he was unaware of inmate voter education as it is the responsibility of the local level.

He said that the Election Commission had entrusted the responsibility of conducting voter education and sample voting program to the Kushma Municipality.
