During the upcoming House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections, 32 teams, including the high-level monitoring team of the Commission, monitored the pre-election human rights situation in 67 districts of all seven provinces and obtained preliminary information.
In a statement issued on November 18, the Commission requested political parties, politically affiliated organizations, the government of Nepal, civil society, observers, media persons, and the general public to conduct the election in a fearless environment by respecting voter rights.
The Commission informed about; three injured in bomb blasts in Nepalganj and Bhojpur districts of Banke; one seriously injured in a clash between power alliance and UML workers in Naugad Rural Municipality of Darchula; an attack on the vehicle of an independent candidate and a Congress candidate in Chitwan’s Bharatpur.
Similarly, within 72 districts, the Commission has received 165 reports of children’s use in election promotion. It includes the use of Tiktok and propaganda materials in school propaganda.
According to the Commission, many prison inmates cannot vote because their names are not on the voter’s list. Furthermore, The Commission received various reports of anti-election activities in different districts, including Jajarkot, Rukum, Rolpa, and Salyan.
The Commission informed deployment of 10 monitoring teams led by the honorable Chairperson of the Commission, members, secretary, joint secretary, and former officials of the Commission to monitor the human rights situation in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Nuwakot, Dhading districts on the day of the election.
The Commission has urged all political parties and all parties participating in the election to follow the election code of conduct.
