National Human Rights Commission’s Observation on the CIEDP and TRC

A team led by the commissioners of the National Human Rights Commission  Dr Surya Dhungel and Manoj Duwadi have observed and discussed on the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

On September 14, 2022, the Commission released a press statement regarding the team’s observation and discussion held at the Commission of Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons on September 14 and at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on September 12.

The statement mentioned that the observation team took the information regarding the management of the complaints, and protection of the documents and files.

The commission has informed that, since there were no officials in the commission at present, the existing secretaries of the two commissions; Shyamkumar Bhattarai and Toyanath Adhikari, reported the current status of the complaints and the recommendations made by the commissions to the Government of Nepal and their status of implementation.

Likewise, the statement issued by Loknath Bastola, the Under Secretary and Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission, stated that there was a discussion between the two commissions and the National Human Rights Commission to continue the work of mutual coordination and exchange of assistance to make the work of transitional justice effective.
