Case of contempt filed for non-compliance with court’s order regarding the distribution of clean drinking water 

Case of contempt has been re-registered following the non-implementation of the Baglung bench, High court Pokhara’s order on the complaint registered demanding for the distribution of clean drinking water in Baglung which has been murky since long.

Baglung Bench of High court Pokhara had issued a five point mandamus order against Baglung Municipality, District Administrative Office and Municipal Drinking Water Office, Baglung on December 8, 2021 for the management of clean drinking water.

Case of contempt was filed in the Baglung bench of High Court of Pokhara on 20 June 2022 stating that the Defendants, Municipal Drinking Water Office, District Administrative Office and Baglung Municipality didn’t comply with the order of the court.

Advocate Ramesh Bahadur Khadka filed the case of contempt of court stating that the concerned authorities  had been distributing murky and dirty drinking water to the locals of Baglung Bazaar, disregarding the order of the court.

Advocate Khadka has registered the case of contempt of court against Hari Prasad Shrestha, Chairperson of Baglung Municipal Drinking water and sanitation committee, Basanta Kumar Shrestha, Mayor of Baglung Municipality and Chief District Officer, coordinator of district water resources committee, for failing to comply with the court’s order.

Case of contempt has been filed against the concerned authorities for not complying with the court’s interim order and not implementation the decision.

Murky water is being distributed in the Baglung Bazaar since long during rainy seasons. Khadka informed that the municipal drinking water office doesn’t have any mechanism to purify the drinking water and a bacteria named ‘Coliform’, which is normally found in the faeces has also been spotted in the course of water examination.

Consumers had submitted a memorandum to the District Administrative Office, Baglung, Baglung Municipality and Municipal Drinking Water office noting that the distribution of impure drinking water has triggered diarrhoea and other skin related diseases.
