During the Gen-Z protest on September 9, 2025, three inmates who had escaped from Kapilbastu Jail were arrested from different locations by the police on May 13, 2026.
According to the Information Officer Resham Lal Bhusal of the District Prison Office, Kapilbastu, those arrested include Bishnu Shrestha of Banganga Municipality-2, an accused in a robbery case; Barsati Musalman of Yashodhara Rural Municipality-2, an accused in a killing case; and Mukti Prasad Khanal of Devchuli Municipality-15 of East Nawalparasi, an accused in a robbery case.
According to the jail administrator, out of 430 inmates who escaped during the protest, 319 have been arrested so far, while 111 are still at large. Currently, the jail houses a total of 391 inmates, including 286 convicts and 105 detainees.
Likewise, inmates in the jail are aged between 18 and 83 years. Among the elderly inmates are Tikaram Lohar, 83, of Buddhabhumi Municipality-6, Chandra Bahadur Shrees, 81 of Bijayanagar Rural Municipality-5, both accused in killing cases, who are among the oldest inmates in jail.
