Rolpa District Jail is housing more than double its capacity of inmates. The jail has a capacity of 50 inmates, 15 women, and 35 men, while it currently holds 122 inmates.
At present, the jail has 10 women, 109 men, and one dependent minor. Among the inmates, 109 are convicted, and 12 are detainees awaiting trial, according to Jail Chief Yamlal Oli.
The jail also houses eight senior citizens above the age of 60. For healthcare services, one health worker has been assigned, the administration stated.
The jail administration has said that overcrowding has created challenges in accommodation management, sanitation, and health safety. Due to limited infrastructure and resources, daily management has become difficult, the jail administration added.
