Police arrested two individuals on April 24, on charges of beating headteacher Dammaru Prasad Dahal, 54, of Nepal National Basic School, Chyangring, located in Madi Municipality–5.
According to police, the incident occurred on Baisakh 9 inside the headteacher’s office during the selection of a teacher representative to complete the School Management Committee.
Police reported that Somnath Dahal, 55, and Lekhakumari Bhattarai, 54, teachers of the same school, were arrested for investigation on charges of assaulting the headteacher.
The arrests were made after the victim filed a complaint at the District Police Office on April 23.
The Nepal National Teachers’ Organization, Madi Municipal Committee, issued a statement on April 24, followed by the district committee on April 25, demanding action against those responsible.
The 1998 United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Defenders defines teachers as human rights defenders.
