Death of a Young Man in Custody at Khurkot Police Post

Shrikrishna BK, 22, from Jumledanda, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality–3, was found on April 20, inside the detention cell of Khurkot Police Post in a suspended condition, having used his shirt to tie himself to the ventilation. Police immediately rescued him and took him to Sunkoshi Community Hospital and then to Sindhuli Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

BK, who worked as a driver in Kathmandu, had entered into a love marriage with a 17-year-old girl on April 11. After the girl’s family filed a complaint at Satdobato Police Post, stating that she was a minor and alleging rape, the police handed the girl over to her relatives and sent her home. Meanwhile, BK was arrested in Kathmandu and brought to Khurkot on April 16 for further investigation.

After receiving information about the incident, family members reached the hospital. The body is currently kept at Sindhuli Hospital. The deceased’s relatives have gone to the Area Police Office, Khurkot, alleging serious negligence by the police. Claimning that the complaint was falsely registered due to the inter-caste marriage, they have demanded that the reality of the incident be made public.
