Police have arrested six individuals on charges of threatening a rape survivor and attempting to coerce a forced settlement. Those arrested on April 14, from Syaaule, are Netra Dong, 32, Nemaghising Dong, 52, Maila Dong, 48, Sushil Dong, 24, Nikmar Dong, 42, and Bishal Dong, 31, all residents of Jugal Rural Municipality–2, Lidi. The accused allegedly took money from the rape suspect and then threatened the survivor in an attempt to force her to withdraw the case. According to Dinesh Gole, a constable from the District Police Office’s case section, they were arrested from the incident site while committing an offense under Section 227(a) of the National Penal Code 2017. He stated that a case has been registered against them for attempting an unlawful settlement, and they are currently in custody for investigation.
Earlier, police had arrested Shreekaji Dong, 47, of Jugal Rural Municipality–2 on April 3 on charges of raping a 44-year-old woman on February 22. According to the survivor, she was held captive at a house in Syaaulebazar, Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality–1, where she was threatened and lured with inducements to withdraw the case, and an attempt was made on April 14 to force a settlement. Acting on information from the survivor’s relatives that a settlement was being arranged, police arrested the individuals directly from the location where the attempt was taking place.
