Malti Kumari Mahtol, 24, from Godaita Municipality-1, filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Malangwa, on April 6, 2026, alleging that her husband, Surendra Kumar Mahato, 25, and mother-in-law, Phulchan Devi Mahato Nunia, 49, beat her on March 31, demanding additional dowry.
Although the couple had received Rs. 100,000 in cash and a one-tola gold necklace as dowry at the time of marriage, the victim’s father, 48-year-old Rakesh Mahto, stated that his daughter was repeatedly tortured over dowry demands.
Malti, who was injured in the beating, received treatment at Sarlahi District Hospital, Malangwa, from March 31 to April 1.
Following the incident, the accused are absconding, and a search is ongoing, Inspector Bindeshwar Yadav of the District Police Office, Malangwa, informed.
