The Madhesh Province Office of the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) provided financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to Indra Kumari Mandal, 17 of Aurahi Municipality-3, on April 6 with the objective of supporting her in pursuing legal procedures. On the same day, the victim’s family submitted an application to the INSEC Madhesh Province Office, requesting support in seeking justice and financial assistance due to their weak economic condition to proceed with legal action. Based on this application, Province Coordinator Raju Paswan stated that the financial support was provided.
According to the victim, Meghnath Yadav, 18, of the same municipality–5, took her to Nepalgunj on April 28, 2025, where he married her at a Durga temple. When she returned home while pregnant, she faced caste-based discrimination and degrading treatment from the family, who allegedly told her, “You are from a lower caste, your water is untouchable,” and subjected her to mistreatment. The victim further stated that her husband, Meghnath, drove her out of the house.
As a result, the victim filed a case at the District Police Office on October 12, 2025, against Meghnath Yadav’s mother, 45-year-old Kavita Devi Yadav, under Section 160, Chapter 10 of the National Penal Code, 2017, relating to discrimination and degrading treatment, informed DSP Shailendra Bhatt. The victim’s side has complained that despite a long time having passed since the complaint was filed, the legal process has not moved forward.
