Anil Confined to an Enclosure for Years

Anil Kumar Thapa, 27, of Jatibhid village, Chandannath Municipality-8, has been living in an enclosure for nearly a decade. Nine years ago, in 2016, he was involved in a road accident in Kathmandu. At that time, he received treatment at KMC Hospital in Kathmandu. Anil’s mother, Hansudevi Thapa, said that he sustained injuries to his brain and head in the accident.

“After running away from school, we didn’t know where my son was for two to four years until he reached Kathmandu,” she said. “It was through social media that we learned he was in Kathmandu after the road accident,” she added. “He received treatment, but did not recover. As he would wander around in an unconscious state and could not stay at home, we were compelled to keep him enclosed.”

Hansudevi said that he is kept at home in a small enclosure fenced with wire mesh. Stating that it has been difficult for her alone to care for her son, she has requested assistance from organizations such as Manav Sewa Ashram.
