The police arrested Anil Gharti, 20, and Janak Gharti, 18, husband and brother-in-law respectively, in connection with the killing of 1 Sarmila Gharti, 19, of Gaumukhi Rural Municipality–6 on January 31. The victim’s relatives filed a complaint against the accused at the District Police Office on the same day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on the evening of January 30, the accused lured the victim to a cliff near Gondrechaur under the pretext of going for a walk. They allegedly beat her, causing her to fall to her death. DSP Narhari Adhikari, Chief of the District Police, stated that after receiving the report, police reached the scene, conducted an investigation, and arrested both accused. They were remanded in police custody at the District Police Office, Pyuthan, for further investigation.
The postmortem of the victim was conducted at the District Hospital, Bijuwar, on February 1 after which the body was handed over to her family.
