A district court has sentenced Srijan Bahadur Khatri, 22, of Beni Municipality–5, to 10 years’ imprisonment for the offence of raping a 16-year-old girl.
In a bench dated December 29, 2025, District Court Judge Surya Bahadur Thapa ruled that the accused be sentenced to 10 years in jail, fined Rs. 500,000, and ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 in compensation, and to deposit Rs. 20,000 into the Victim Protection Fund pursuant to Section 41 of the Crime Victim Protection Act, 2018. Earlier, in a bench dated December 16, Judge Suryabahadur Thapa had convicted the accused and ordered that he be presented for sentencing.
The victim’s side filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Myagdi, on July 30, alleging that the accused had raped the girl on May 28. Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused on the same day. Through the District Government Attorney’s Office, police registered a case under the charge of rape at the District Court, Myagdi, on August 22, 2025. On the same day, the court ordered that the accused be sent to judicial custody for trial.
