Election Office Set Up in Bagmati for National Assembly Poll

For the election of National Assembly members, the Office of the Election Officer has been established at the capital of Bagmati Province, Hetauda. The office, set up within the premises of the Provincial Election Office, was inaugurated on December 31, 2025, by District Judge and Election Officer Gita Shrestha.

Along with the inauguration ceremony, Shrestha formally assumed the responsibility of Election Officer. With the establishment of the office, the entire process of the National Assembly election has commenced, informed Hari Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the Provincial Election Office, Bagmati.

In Bagmati Province, the election for two National Assembly members will be held on January 25, 2026. Through the election, one representative will be selected from the women’s category and one from the other groups. According to the Provincial Election Office, there are a total of 348 voters, comprising 110 members of the Provincial Assembly and 238 local-level chiefs and deputy chiefs from 13 districts.

Based on vote weightage, the total vote weight of local-level chiefs and deputy chiefs is 4,522, while the vote weight of Provincial Assembly members is 5,830. Thus, the total vote weight stands at 10,352, the Election Office stated.

For the election, Bhutan Devi Secondary School, located in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4, has been designated as the polling venue. There will be two polling stations at the school. Voting will take place in the ‘B’ block, while vote-counting arrangements have been made in the technical building.

On January 25, 2026, Chief Election Officer Gita Shrestha, Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari, and heads of security agencies also conducted an inspection of the polling venue. A total of 16 staff members will be deployed, with eight staff assigned to each polling station.

According to the voting procedure, Provincial Assembly members will cast their votes on white ballots using green ink, while local level representatives will use red ink. The Election Commission has fixed the voting time from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

As per the election schedule, the voter list will be published on January 3, 2026. Thereafter, programs including claim and objection, investigation, publication of the final voter list, nomination of candidates, complaints, withdrawal of nominations, and distribution of election symbols will be conducted sequentially.

Currently, the term of National Assembly members from Bagmati Province, Ganga Kumari Belwase and Beduram Dhakal, is set to end in March 2026. Therefore, this election is being held to fill the positions that will become vacant.
