Police arrested Mustafa Sheikh, 33, on December 26, 2025, on charges of attempting to kill his wife, Khushbu Khatun, 28, of Muktinath Tole, Duhabi Municipality–3, by pouring petrol on her.
According to District Police SP Keshav Kumar Thebe, Mustafa, who had been working in India, returned home on December 26, and on the same day, attempted to kill his wife following a dispute over her mobile phone and financial matters.
SP Thebe said that after petrol was poured and set on fire, the victim sustained burn injuries to her chest, face, and various other parts of her body.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Paras Hospital, Biratnagar.
Police stated that preliminary investigation revealed that Khushbu, whose maternal home is in Bihar, India, had married Sheikh about one and a half years ago.
Inspector Shivram Thapa of the Area Police Office, Duhabi, said that the accused attempted to kill his wife by pouring petrol due to a domestic dispute.
Police have registered a case against Mustafa Sheikh at the Area Police Office, Duhabi, under charges of attempted killing on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s side.
