During the Gen-Z movement on September 9, 2025, inmate Deepak Kumar Mahara, 37, who had escaped from Central Jail, Jaganathdeval, Kathmandu, was arrested on December 9 in Birgunj. Mahara was found hiding in his house in Birgunj Metropolitan City-8, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Haribahadur Basnet.
Mahara had been serving a 25-year jail sentence imposed by the Parsa District Court for a criminal offense involving life, and was detained at the Central Jail at the time of his escape.
