At Kailash Basic School, located in Kharpunath Rural Municipality-1, education have been affected due to a shortage of classrooms. Principal Lal Bahadur Shahi stated that the lack of sufficient classrooms has caused difficulties for students from Early Childhood Development up to Grade 8.
Currently, there are 53 students in the Early Childhood Development section, and although four classrooms are required as per standards, all students are forced to be taught in a single room, according to Principal Shahi’s complaint. He also mentioned that due to overcrowding, not only is learning affected, but the risk of various diseases spreading has also increased.
In the school, which has a total of 150 students, the shortage of boundary walls, dilapidated classrooms, dust and smoke problems due to the absence of ceilings, and old toilets have made learning even more difficult. There is also no playground or kitchen to provide students with mid-day meals. According to Principal Shahi, although the school has enough teaching staff positions, the condition of physical infrastructure is pitiable. He further shared that despite submitting requests four to five times to the rural municipality, no response has been received.
Deputy Chairperson of Kharpunath Rural Municipality, Gyan Bahadur Shahi, stated that the issues related to physical and educational materials in all schools within the rural municipality will be addressed gradually.
