Teaching and learning activities at Shivalaya Basic School in Majhigaun, Ramechhap Municipality–5, have been affected after the school building was damaged by landslides triggered by rainfall during the months of October and November 2025, and has not yet been repaired.
Due to the lack of a proper school building, children from the marginalised Majhi community are compelled to study in an open field. As the cold increases, studying outdoors has created difficulties for the students.
According to Netra Prasad Gajurel, Head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, the classrooms of Shivalaya Basic School in Majhigaun cannot be used, as a landslide from the road above damaged the roof and all classrooms of the school building.
Similarly, according to Shrawan Kumar Sharma, Technical Assistant at the Education Department, students at the school have been compelled to study in an open field since October 28, 2025.
Due to the lack of a proper building, a temporary prefabricated learning center is being constructed at the school with the support of Ramechhap Municipality and Seto Guras National Child Development Service at a cost of Rs. 893,000. However, Ramechhap Municipality Mayor Labshree Nyaupane stated that it will take some more time to complete the construction.
