Ten Injured by Police Baton-Charge During  Protest in Front of Chief Minister’s Office

Police baton-charged leaders and activists who were staging a sit-in in front of the Office of the Chief Minister of Madhes Province on the evening of November 11, injuring 10 people. Among the injured are Birendra Kumar Mandal,35, Mahottari District In-charge of Janamat Party, Ram Binod Chaudhary, Gyanendra Jha, Birendra Yadav, Surendra Yadav, Adarsha Mandal, Bidhant Jha, Yuvraj Mishra, Rameshwar Mandal, and Surendra Kumar Yadav, a journalist from Nagarik Mirror.

Birendra Kumar, who sustained a deep injury to his nose from the police baton charge, is undergoing treatment at Hira Health Care Center in Janakpurdham. The other injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham, according to former Chief Minister Jitendra Prasad Sonal. The protests intensified after Saroj Kumar Yadav of the CPN-UML was appointed as Chief Minister in violation of constitutional provisions. In opposition to this unconstitutional appointment, the Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Nepali Congress, along with representatives and members of civil society, have been continuously staging protests.

Nepali Congress MP Birendra Kumar Singh stated that the situation turned tense on the evening of November 11 when an attempt was made to escort the newly appointed Chief Minister into the office for attendance while demonstrators were staging a sit-in in front of the Chief Minister’s Office.
