Kaviram Basnet, 35, of Masinatol, Bheriganga Municipality-12, was arrested by the police on October 31 on charges of killing his mother with an axe. According to DSP MohanJang Budhathapa of the District Police Office, Surkhet, the accused struck his 50-year-old mother, Dhanikala Basnet, on the head with an axe while she was sleeping on the morning of October 31, after which she died during treatment at Province Hospital, Surkhet.
DSP Budhathapa stated that the accused, Kaviram, was arrested by a police team dispatched from the Chhinchu Police Station from Chhinchu Bazaar, and an investigation has begun. According to him, the accused used to consume excessive alcohol and struck his mother with an axe in a fit of rage.
