Injured Santosh of Gen-Z Movement Taken to Kathmandu for Further Treatment

On October 31, Santosh Bohara, 26, from Birendranagar Municipality-2, who was injured during the Gen-Z movement on September 9, was taken to Kathmandu for further treatment. During the movement, Santosh was injured in his right eye by a gunshot fire by the police at Birendranagar Municipality-7, Itram.

As treatment at Province Hospital, Surkhet was not possible, he was treated at Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital. According to doctors, he has lost vision in both eyes. For further treatment, on the morning of October 31, he was taken from Nepalgunj by air to Tilganga Eye Hospital, Kathmandu, and Teaching Hospital, according to his wife, Nirmala Khadka.

According to her, although the hospital administration covered all in-hospital expenses free of charge, there are financial challenges in covering transportation costs and purchasing medicines and materials not available within the hospital. Nirmala stated that they are managing the expenses with help from relatives and donors.

Santosh’s family is financially weak. They own only approximately 1690 sq meter of land and one house. Santosh, who was unemployed, was preparing to go to Croatia. However, his dream could not be fulfilled after losing both eyes due to injuries sustained during the movement.

At Santosh’s home live his parents, wife, and daughter. Records of destruction and arson incidents during the movement have been maintained by the INSEC Karnali Province office. According to the recorded incidents, 35 people were injured in Karnali Province during the movement, of whom 18 were shot.
