During the Gen-Z protest, fire in Dang resulted in the destruction of essential medicines and health supplies. According to local health branches, stocks of vital medicines and medical items stored in Ghorahi and Tulsipur sub-metropolitan areas were set ablaze. Radha Paudel, Chief of the health branch under Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, confirmed that essential medicines and supplies stored in the municipal health branch were destroyed. These included paracetamol, oral rehydration solution (ORS), metronidazole, diabetes and hypertension medicines, tuberculosis medicines, cotton, betadine, and temporary family planning devices, which were to be regularly supplied to 19 municipal health units and the city health unit.
Similarly, six rooms of health units located in Wards 6 and 10 of Ghorahi were burned, destroying additional medicines and medical supplies. In Ward 18, a vaccination clinic was vandalized. In Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, health supplies stored for all 19 wards and for the municipality-run Metro Hospital were destroyed in the fire, according to Health Branch Chief Om Prakash Neupane. He reported that essential medicines sufficient for three months, along with three ILR refrigerators used to store vaccines, one deep freezer for ice packs, eight laboratory refrigerators, more than 100 vaccine carriers, and five Luxembourg boxes, were completely destroyed. Neupane stated that all medicines and health materials had been reduced to zero, causing a major disruption to health services in the municipality. Health Branch Chief Radha Paudel of Ghorahi stated that medicines and health supplies are procured through contracts in advance to supply municipal health units, and essential medicines stored for this purpose were also destroyed in the fire, causing significant damage. She added that the medicines previously dispatched are still available at the health units, but there will likely be a shortage of medicines after one month.
