On 12 September, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Devaraj Ghimire and Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal issued a joint statement, emphasizing that in the current critical situation in the country, the people’s sovereign power, civil liberties, territorial integrity, national unity, and independence must be upheld. They stated that the President is taking initiatives to resolve the situation through constitutional procedures and stressed that no one should act outside the rule of law and constitutional framework.
The Federal Parliament expressed deep sorrow over the damage to public and private property during the Gen-Z movement on 8 and 9 September. The statement notes that the arson and vandalism caused during the protests severely affected the Parliament building in Baneshwar, the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar, various government offices, private and government residences, media houses, commercial establishments, public property, and historical documents.
The statement urges everyone to address the demands of the protesters and to commit to building a more advanced, prosperous, and strong democracy.
