Nineteen Killed, Over 453 Injured in Gen Z Protests

During the protest organized by the new generation youth (Gen Z) in Kathmandu on 8 September against corruption, mismanagement, and the government’s decision to ban social media, 19 people injured in the demonstrations died while undergoing treatment. According to reports, three died at Civil Hospital, eight at the National Trauma Center, three at Everest Hospital, two at KMC Hospital, one at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and two in Sunsari.

Among the deceased are Buddhabahadur Tamang, 42, of Kirtipur; Santosh BK, 29, of Belka Municipality-4, Udayapur, Sulabharaj Shrestha, 21, of Banke, Shriram Chaulagai, 19, a student of Global College, Ishwar Bahadur Adhikari, 26, of Baneshwor, Kathmandu, Ayush Thapa, 29, address not disclosed, Gaurav Joshi, 27, address not disclosed; and Yogesh Shrestha, 21, of Bahrabise Municipality-6, Sindhupalchok. Similarly, at Civil Hospital, among the deceased are Nishchal Saru Magar, 18, of Arghakhanch, Bimal Bhatt, 22, of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality-5, Gorkha, and another youth whose name and address have not been disclosed. At KMC Hospital, Saurabh Kishor Shrestha, 30, of Baneshwor, and Sushan Bohora, 23, originally from Bajhang and residing in Kirtipur, died. At Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Rashid Khatriwada, 23. Likewise, at Everest Hospital in Baneshwor, Binod Maharjan, 30, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-7, Dali Narayan Tamang, 42, of Temal Rural Municipality, Kavre, and Yogendra Neupane, 23, of Duwakot, Bhaktapur, lost their lives.

In Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-16, Abhishes Shrestha, 23, and another individual whose identity has not yet been confirmed, lost their lives. Meanwhile, a total of 170 injured individuals are undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, 59 at the Trauma Center, 102 at Everest Hospital in New Baneshwor, 31 at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal (seven of whom have been discharged), 10 at Bir Hospital, and six at Patan Hospital. Similarly, 18 injured individuals are receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, three at Norvic Hospital, four at Annapurna Neuro Hospital, four at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, one at Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara, three at Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, four at Birat Medical College in Biratnagar, and seven at Damak Hospital.
