A clash between the police and locals in Kamalpur, Rajgadh Rural Municipality–2 occurred on the night of 5 August resulting in the death of Lalu Yadav, 36, due to police gunfire. According to DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Saptari, the police had been deployed based on information about smuggling activities. When locals started pelting stones at the police, the situation escalated, prompting the police to fire several rounds to bring it under control. During the incident, Yadav was injured after being shot in the thigh.
The police stated that the injured Yadav was taken to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj for treatment, but he died during the course of treatment. The deceased, Yadav, was also the chairperson of the management committee of Khuwalal Jagarnath Shakti Basic School in Rajgadh-2, Kamalpur.
One police officer was injured in the incident. Following the clash, the police seized several cartons of liquor that were being smuggled toward India.
