Yojan BK, 3, and his 6-year-old sister Bhagya Rekha BK of Bhume Rural Municipality-5, Rukum East, died after consuming poisonous mushrooms. Yojan BK, who fell ill after eating mushrooms picked from the forest on July 18, 2025, died during treatment at Salyan District Hospital on July 22. His sister Bhagya Rekha BK, who was in critical condition, died the same day during treatment at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences in Ghorahi, according to the institution’s Information Officer Ramita Gautam. Four members of the same family had become seriously ill after eating the mushrooms.
The children’s 35-year-old mother, Ram Kumari Sunar, who was also admitted late to the hospital, is undergoing treatment at the Rapti Academy of Health Sciences and is reported to be in stable condition. Another daughter, 9-year-old Ayusha BK, is receiving treatment at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, according to their maternal uncle Birash Sunar.
