A team from the District Administration Office, Darchula, reached the homes of senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Byas Rural Municipality to distribute citizenship certificates and national identity cards. The initiative was led by Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Singh Dhami, who stated that the effort aimed to deliver essential services directly to people’s doorsteps.

As part of this initiative, 97-year-old Laludevi Bhatta of Byas Rural Municipality-6 was issued a citizenship certificate at her residence. Due to her physical condition, she had been unable to leave her home. Receiving the citizenship certificate in her old age brought her joy. Previously deprived of the social security allowance because she lacked citizenship, Bhatta will now be eligible to access those benefits. The team distributed citizenship certificates to a total of 161 individuals and national identity cards to 205 individuals across Wards 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Byas Rural Municipality. Among those who received citizenship certificates were 138 senior citizens and two persons with disabilities. Similarly, among those who received national identity cards were 197 senior citizens and five persons with disabilities.

Byas Rural Municipality Spokesperson Upendra Singh Dhami stated that the distribution was carried out at the request of the rural municipality. He informed that the documents were provided to individuals who were unable to travel to the district headquarters in Khalanga. According to Spokesperson Dhami, a one-way vehicle fare from Byas Rural Municipality to Khalanga costs at least Rs 1,000. Instead of requiring individuals to spend a minimum of Rs 4,000 for the trip, the rural municipality coordinated with the authorities to facilitate the distribution of citizenship certificates and national identity cards within the rural municipality itself.
