The residents of Lahachewar in Umakunda Rural Municipality-1, Gumdel, are compelled to walk six hours to access healthcare services. Due to the absence of a health facility in the Rural Municipality, people in this remote settlement must walk for hours even for minor illnesses. It takes them over six hours to reach and return from the Gumdel Health Post. Lahachewar, located at the foothills of Numbur Mountain is home to 32 households. It is also the northernmost settlement of the district, bordering China. The settlement is predominantly inhabited by the Sherpa community. According to a teacher Potraj Ghimire, if residents suffer from serious illnesses, their only option is to airlift patients to Kathmandu by helicopter. It costs at least Rs150,000 to transport a patient to Kathmandu by helicopter. Most families have already left the Rural Municipality due to a lack of facilities. Those who could not afford to leave stayed in the Rural Municipality, according to a local, Angnuri Sherpa.

According to Ward Chairperson Ngawatindu Sherpa, transportation remains difficult throughout the year in the ward. During the rainy season, operating vehicles in Lahachewar becomes extremely challenging. As a result, locals still face difficulties in transporting essentials like salt, oil, and food grains.
