Teachers of Danphe Basic School, Chankheli Rural Municipality-5, Nepka have been deprived of their salaries since July. According to a prior decision, teachers working in the school were required to be assigned to different schools to facilitate the completion of examinations conducted within Chankheli Rural Municipality. The decision needed at least five teachers from one school to go to another for examination duties and then return to their school. Principal Bachulal Choudhary of the school stated that Danfe Basic School could not hire five teachers, resulting in the withholding of the first quarter’s salary.
Principal Choudhary added that during the half-yearly exam on September 22, 2024, he fractured his leg and had to assign two other teachers to another school. However, while the rural municipality verbally informed him that teachers would need to be sent to another school for the exam, it did not issue a written circular. He explained that, due to the geographical distance, traveling from one school to another was already a problem, and his fractured leg made it even more difficult. While other schools in the rural municipality were promptly provided Dashain bonuses and salaries, the six teachers, two female teachers, and one office assistant at Danfe Basic School were not given their Dashain bonus or salary. He further accused the Chankheli Rural Municipality of not reopening the school’s account at Global IME Bank, Chankheli Rural Municipality-4, even after one month had passed since the second quarter.
Currently, there are three permanent teachers, one relief teacher, one teacher from the union, two contractual teachers, one early childhood education teacher, and one office assistant working at the school. They are currently teaching 140 students at the school. Chief Administrative Officer of the Rural Municipality, Param Pandey, admitted that he was not well-informed about the matter. He explained that the decision made by the elected representatives and employees was aimed at improving the education sector, and the bank account might have been closed to allow for further discussion on the issue. Pandey stated that in the coming days, the Chairperson, staff, and teachers will hold a meeting to discuss and find a resolution to the problem.
