Child Escaped  from Jayendu Children’s Reform Home

A 16-year-old boy from Dang escaped from the Jayendu Children’s Reform Home in Duduwa Rural Municipality-6, Asamanpur, on the evening of August 24. Bimala Kaucha Magar, Chief of the Children’s Home, reported that the boy had been detained a month earlier for a preliminary investigation related to a bike theft case. While the police were having dinner, the boy took advantage of the situation and escaped through the main gate by deceiving the officer on duty. Magar added that despite the police searching, they could not find him yet. She mentioned that the 16-year-old married boy often spoke about his wife, and may have escaped because he missed her. DSP Narayan Dangi of the District Police Office stated that a coordinated search was going on for the boy.

Overcrowding at the Jayendu Children’s Correctional Home has disrupted the education of the children. According to Bimala Kaucha Magar, the facility, designed for 190 individuals, currently houses 263 children. Chief Kaucha Magar added that despite the large area of the reform home, the lack of proper infrastructure, a weak boundary wall, and only 12 police officers make it challenging to manage the 263 juvenile detainees.
