Thame Basic School in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 has been closed since last week due to a flood caused by the avalanches that occurred from above Thame on August 16. The flood damaged the school’s building and affected its daily operations.
Prakanda Neupane, Education Officer of the Education Development and Coordination Unit in Solukhumbu, reported that the flood damaged the school’s properties including teachers’ manuals, educational documents, materials, drawers, and electronic equipment. Additionally, since there are no immediate plans to rebuild the school building. As a result, they are preparing to transfer the students to Khumjung Secondary School in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 for their education. Thame Basic School offers education up to Class 7 and has 50 students enrolled.
Lakpachiri Sherpa, the Spokesperson of the Rural Municipality, said they are preparing to send educational materials to the students by helicopter from Faplu. The school hostel has also been completely damaged by the disaster.
