Five households in Molung Rural Municipality-7, Jese Gauridadha, have been displaced due to a landslide caused by heavy rain. Ward Chairperson Hem Bahadur Sunuwar mentioned that the houses of Tek Bahadur Pahari, Peshal Bahadur Pahari, Man Bahadur Pahari, Ambar Bahadur Pahari, and Tej Bahadur Sunuwar were damaged due to the landslide. Due to the landslide, 23 other households in the same area are at risk. Chairperson Sunuwar informed that they are making efforts to relocate the at risk families to a safe location along with their belongings and livestock.
Additionally, houses in Ratane of the same ward are also at risk. The landslide buried the cattle raised by 55-year-old Pemba Tamang and 50-year-old Min Bahadur Tamang. Inspector Bijay Karki of the District Police Office said that cattle were buried when the ridge above the shed collapsed. It is reported that the houses of 65-year-old Bhakta Bahadur Tamang, 56-year-old Singh Bahadur Tamang, 43-year-old Mahirani Tamang, Pemba Tamang, and Min Bahadur Tamang in Ratane are at risk of landslides. Consequently, the families with their livestock and belongings, have been relocated to a safe place.
The landslide has also damaged the power line running from the local Bhulbhule river through Peltiset. The Rural Municipality has faced significant financial losses including crops of around lakhs of rupees. Howevr, the full extent of the damage is yet to be revealed. Moreover, the Jese Secondary School of the Rural Municipality is also now at risk due to the landslide.
This year, 35-year-old Devkumari Khatri from Chishakhugadhi Rural Municipality-5, Thumki, died on June 27, 2024, when a landslide caused by continuous rain collapsed her house and shed.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rain in the district until 4 July. All 13 districts of the Koshi province, except Udayapur are categorized as high-risk zones.
