Six government vehicles belonging to the Province Planning Commission, Koshi and Nepal Electricity Authority were vandalized and set on fire by an unidentified group of people.
According to police reports, the following vehicles were among those vandalized on June 8th: Ko 1 Jha 644, Ba AB 8180, Bagmati Province 01 00 J 2701, Ba 1 J 2419, Ba 001 J 2990, and Ba 1 J 1887.
DSP Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet of the District Police Office reported that on June 8, vehicles were vandalized in front of Mahendra Morang Campus. Additionally, the parked vehicles belonging to the Electricity Authority were also vandalized on June 9. DSP Basnet added that the reasons behind the vandalism are yet to be revealed and police have begun searching for those responsible. Furthermore, the estimated loss due to the vandalism is 1,500,000.
Police suspect that government vehicles were vandalized in retaliation for the arrest of students who surrounded Rangeli Municipality on June 7, protesting against high fees charged by private schools.
