Seven families displaced by the landslide in Lidi have not yet been rehabilitated. The families from Jugal Rural Municipality-2 were displaced by a landslide that occurred on the morning of August 14, 2020 in Lidi. A total of 39 people including 20 women had lost their lives in the landslide and nine people sustained injuries. Additionally, the landslide destroyed 35 households and put 180 houses at risk.
Sunlal Dong, a local resident, shared that the community not only faced damages regarding their homes, land, and belongings but also lost their family members in the landslide. This forced the surviving families to relocate themselves to Kathmandu.
All families at risk were relocated to Baskharka, Selang, in Jugal Rural Municipality-1. However, 107 families had to return to the Lidim settlement later as they were unable to stay under tarpaulin for a long time. Seven families among those living in Baskharka, who had relocated to Kathmandu, have not yet returned home.
Chandrakaji Lama, Ward Chairperson of Jugal Rural Municipality-2, mentioned that the ward office has taken initiatives to resettle those displaced by the landslide. However, due to the lack of clear plans of the Rural Municipality, resettlement has become challenging.
