Rapti Municipality Establishes Birthing Center in a Remote Area with Majority Chepang Population

Rapti municipality in Chitwan has bought a birthing center into operation so that pregnant women from the marginalized Chepang community do not have to lose their lives.

Mayor Shamsher Lama informed that this initiation of operating a birthing center in the Basbang health post of Rapti Municipality-13 has been taken to reduce the premature deaths of women due to the lack of health facilities for safe delivery.

Additionally, the establishment of the birthing center has put an end to the difficult situation where pregnant women had to be carried in bamboo baskets for up to five hours to reach Bhandara Hospital because of the geographical difficulties.

Mayor further added that the birthing center is established to provide 24-hours service with the arrangement of necessary equipment, staff and medicines. The birthing center targets to provide safe delivery services for the women in the remote area of Basbang.
